Media Studies Thriller opening:

This is a thriller opening that played a part in my coursework during year twelve in my A-level media class. We worked in groups of three and each individual had specific tasks in the production stages, as well as team work to collaborate our ideas and come up with a finished product. I was the group leader and acted to ensure the make-up and costume/mise en scene of the video was to a high enough standard, and matched the theme of the video. I also filmed specific shots of the video, along with my group members, and then we all came together during the post production of our final product to edit and finalise our piece. For costume, makeup and props we decided to take a simplistic approach to match the storyline of the opening. The makeup we used was to create bruises, cuts and scratches to enable the young girl to appear like she had been in a fight/dangerous occurrence. I used what was available at the time which was eyeshadow and fake blood and mixed shades of black, purple, yellow, blue and also white to create a 3D effect bruises that seemed realistic. Fake blood was used to make the wound seem more realistic and allow the audience to empathise with the character evoking emotions of fear and depression. In terms of costume i decided pyjamas would be the most suitable option as it could be used to create a sense of voyeurism as the young individual is wearing innocent clothes that would not be suitable for everyday life outside of the house,  as well as continue to present her purity and vulnerability to the audience. In terms of filming we decided to take a hand held camera approach to indicate the fear being experienced by the character, and also a variety of camera angles to further be suggestive of the emotions experienced by the individual. Overall the elements we considered during production, for example makeup, costume, camera angles, music, and also effects allowed the thriller opening to come together and represent collaboration, independence and innovative ideas.
